UNmaking Opens at The Museum in the Park in Stroud
We were delighted to welcome so many friends, supporters, and fellow makers to the Museum in the Park in Stroud for the opening of our latest exhibition, UNmaking. Returning to exhibit in Stroud as a collective for the first time since 2017 made the occasion feel particularly special—and it is wonderful to be back at the Museum in the Park, where group members Ruth Issett and Dorothy Tucker also held their joint exhibition in 2021.
Chair Alice Fox Opening UNmaking
Our Chair, Alice Fox, opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone to the gallery and giving a brief introduction to the Textile Study Group and our ongoing work. She expressed our heartfelt thanks to Abigail and the Museum in the Park staff, with special gratitude to Carol, our brilliant technician, whose support made the installation process run so smoothly.
Gratitude was also extended to Jane and Sue for their immense work in coordinating the entire UNmaking project, alongside Polly and the hanging team for their effort in bringing the show together. A huge thank you went to Ruth for curating our comprehensive workshop programme—with visitors warmly encouraged to sign up and participate throughout the exhibition’s run.
Alice also highlighted our recent Summer School and pointed visitors toward our newly launched website, before handing over to Jane McKeating, who spoke inspiringly about the central theme of UNmaking.
Jane unpacked the ideas behind the exhibition: how deconstructing, unravelling, and questioning established processes allows us to find new language and meaning within textile art. It was a joyful, thought-provoking start to what promises to be a memorable exhibition.
A glimpse of the exhibition through Lois Blackburn’s beautiful installation of cyanotype stoma bags.
