Considering the Crinoline [200 x 150 cms] Jean Draper
The study of the construction of the mid nineteenth century invention, the steel hoped crinoline underskirt, from actual examples, contemporary texts and writings of acknowledged fashion historians, has led to a series of exploratory drawings, samples and sculptural pieces in mixed media. Of particular interest was the notion that the crinoline could be difficult to wear and therefore had the potential to cause embarrassment to the wearer.
