Individual and Collective

The Textile Study Group (formerly the Practical Study Group) showed an exciting and stimulating exhibition exploring individual ideas and inspirations, at the Knitting & Stitching Shows in London, Dublin and Harrogate in 2011.

Alongside a new piece of textile work by each of the twenty-four members, each also showed a postcard from their personal collection, and discussed how this has influenced the development of their art practice.

All the members of the group pursue their own interests and have a lively approach to subject matter, materials and techniques. Together they aim to promote the textile arts through teaching, lecturing, writing and exhibiting. Hence the title: Individual and Collective.

Several members of the group participated in "The Learning Curve" workshops at each venue under the banner of "TSG: Sharing Skills". The TSG is also delighted to have received an Arts Council Grant for a new publication about the group, its members and their activities, which was launched at the Knitting and Stitching Shows 2011.
