Introducing Vivienne Beaumont

We are delighted to welcome Vivienne Beaumont as a new member of the Textile Study Group!

From Fine Art to Textiles

Originally trained in Fine Art, Vivienne spent many years inspiring others as an art teacher. Over time, her interests shifted toward textiles—a journey sparked by courses at Westhope College in Shropshire, where her work earned her a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence. In 2019, she retired from teaching to pursue an MA in Contemporary Crafts, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Theme & Practice

At the core of Vivienne’s practice is the ephemeral and cyclical nature of life. Working with symbolism, cloth, and thread, she uses archetypal imagery to tap into collective human emotions—drawing inspiration from figurative art, mythology, nature, and the concept of transformation. Motifs like harvests, seeds, and pomegranates serve as powerful symbols of both vitality and loss, allowing her to explore shared cultural memories using print and machine embroidery.

Process & Exhibitions

Drawing and design remain fundamental to Vivienne’s work. Every piece begins with a sketch, which she often refines using Photoshop before transferring the design onto fabric through various printing methods. For Vivienne, the true magic happens in the spontaneous, creative moments that unfold while handling the cloth.

In addition to joining the Textile Study Group, Vivienne is an active member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen and A.R.T, a collective based in Somerset.
