{"id":1491,"date":"2023-05-30T15:08:11","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T15:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/news\/?p=1491"},"modified":"2023-05-30T15:08:14","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T15:08:14","slug":"meet-the-artist-and-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/news\/2023\/05\/30\/meet-the-artist-and-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the artist, and workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Running throughout April to July at the Peebles Library and Museum, we are celebrating<strong>\u00a0Making:50<\/strong>\u00a0with opportunities for you to meet some of the artists and join in artist led workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday 2nd June, 13.00- 15.00 you can <strong>MEET THE ARTIST<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/members\/julia-triston\/\">JULIA TRISTON<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julia will bring some samples, talk about her Making:50 work,  give a demonstration, or be working on a piece, and be available to engage with the public and answer questions about our individual practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workshop Title:\u00a0<\/strong>Text &amp; Textiles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3rd June:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveborders.org.uk\/culture\/museums\/our-museums\/peebles-library-museum-and-gallery\/\">Tweeddale Gallery, Peebles Library and Museum<\/a> 13.00-15.00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workshop Description:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this workshop you will transfer a special or intriguing piece of writing into a small textile artwork. You will start by sampling and experimenting with lettering and text styles in free machine embroidery. You will then creatively interpret your piece of writing &#8211; which could be a list, a letter, a poem, or a personal manifesto &#8211; to emphasise and highlight important elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Price<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a345.00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To book<\/strong>\u00a0call the Museum &amp; Gallery on: 01721 726333 or email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:libpeebles@liveborders.org.uk\">libpeebles@liveborders.org.uk<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please bring:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notebook and pencil, ruler and rubber<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some lined paper, or graph paper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some pieces of writing as a starting point \u2013 lists, letters, poems etc (NB if you have texts that are written in small hand writing, and wish to copy the handwriting exactly, you might need to enlarge your texts on a photocopier before the workshop)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tracing paper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machine with a drop feed and free motion\/darning foot, spare needles and bobbins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extension lead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machine embroidery threads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paper scissors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sewing kit: needles, pins, small scissors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Background fabric \u2013 can range from a fine cotton organdie or netting to a thicker cotton or linen \u2013 approximately A4 size or smaller<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost of kit<\/strong>: N\/a.
