Kitty is a lacemaker who enjoys extending traditional techniques in an innovative way and Ann works with textiles having a particular fascination with the qualities of paper as a fabric.<\/p>\n<p><a href='https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/kittyandann.jpg' rel=\"lightbox\" title=\"Ann Wheeler and Kitty Mason\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/kittyandann-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"Ann Wheeler and Kitty Mason\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/kittyandann-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/kittyandann.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The opportunity to work alongside each other was too good to pass over, however with Ann living on the South coast and Kitty in Edinburgh it was clear that working together regularly was impractical, so that electronic communication was inevitably going to play a large part in the collaboration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gallery\">\n<dl class=\"gallery-item col-2\">\n<dt class=\"gallery-icon\">\n <a href='https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/binche.jpg' rel=\"lightbox[inspire]\" title=\"Binche lace\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/binche-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Binche lace\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-283\" \/><\/a>\n<\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<dl class=\"gallery-item col-2\">\n<dt class=\"gallery-icon\">\n<a href='https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/pashtunpurse.jpg' rel=\"lightbox[inspire]\" title=\"Pashtun Purse\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/textilestudygroup.co.uk\/creativedialoguesexhibition\/files\/2008\/07\/pashtunpurse-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Pashtun Purse\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-286\" \/><\/a>\n<\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Initially a treasured textile from each of their collections was exchanged. Ann sent Kitty a colourful embroidered purse thought to be made by the Hazara in Afghanistan and Kitty sent Ann the most exquisite piece of Binche lace, with a snowflake ground, worked with thread of unbelievable fineness.<br \/>\nKitty was excited by the colour and history of the purse. She researched to find, from the evidence of blue beads and shisha mirror together that it was in fact probably from the Pashtun tribe.<\/p>\n<p>Ann was somewhat daunted by the fineness of the lace and lack of texture.
